At Big Wave Dave, all our certified instructors have been personally trained by local legend and surf guru, Dave Carvalho, a native who’s been a staple of the Waikiki Beach scene for decades. Our Range of Honolulu Surf Lessons

We aim to make surfing as accessible as possible, which is why we offer lessons that cater to a broad array of budgets and preferred learning styles. Group lessons are our most economical option, giving you the chance to hit the waves alongside likeminded people while a local instructor broadening your cultural horizons.

What You Can Expect

Our lessons last for about one hour and 30 minutes, with each one customized to meet your level of skill. Before we hit the ocean on your first lesson, we’ll provide a 20-minute safety and orientation briefing, including tips on local surfing etiquette. You’ll spend the remaining time mastering your skills at catching the waves and getting on your feet, learning techniques such as drop knee, prone and stand-up.

Lesson Options and Prices

All our Honolulu surf lessons include soft-top surfboard and leash rentals as standard, meaning all you need to remember is your swimsuit, sun protection, and determination. Our standard prices are:

• Group Lesson: $129

• Semi-Private Lesson: $149

• Private Lesson: $179
